Acacia robinia wood shade sail pole for attaching roller shade sails

This shade sail pole in robinia wood guarantees a strong, stylish and durable installation.

Included in your purchase: 1 tensioning system (4 options available), 1 eye screw and 1 stainless steel cleat.

- The eye screw supplied with your pole is to be installed at the desired hanging height. It secures the tensioning system and the sail. You are free to position it at the desired height on the mast.

- Tensioning systems available: coconut rope, rope-and-pulley/tensioning system (standard or reinforced version) or short tensioning system (rigging screw).

- Only 1 anchoring option is offered: version to be embedded directly in concrete or using a gutter to be inserted into the concrete block (no sleeve supplied with your mast), if you wish to be able to remove your mast in winter.

Wood type: Robinia class 4, naturally rot-proof and highly resistant, suitable for the pull of our shade sails (maximum sail size 23m2) and with a durability of over 30 years, an interesting alternative to teak and other exotic woods. It is a 100% natural untreated wood.

Total height: 350 cm / Height above ground: 270 to 290 cm

Diameter: 10 to 13 cm

Weight: approx. 28 kg

Warranty: 2 years

Finish: debarked and sanded, this shade sail pole is not perfectly straight, but has irregularities that give a natural look to your installation.

Sail size: we recommend this type of pole for shade sails up to 23m2 in area. Beyond that, aluminum masts are more robust.

Origin: sustainably managed forests in the European Union.

Important: the color of wood changes over time, taking on a progressively grayer hue. As wood is a natural material, it is normal for the pole to crack.

Finally, the wooden poles are tarred at the top to protect them from the elements

Elements included with your wooden mast for shade sails

Tensioning system for Espace Ombrage masts

Tension system

To tension the sail correctly. Single pulleys for the standard version, double pulleys for the reinforced version, rigging screw for the short tensioning system and coconut rope for coco shade sails.

Eye screw for wooden mast for shade sails

The slide

To hang your tensioning system on your pole, at the height determined by you.

Stainless steel cleat for wooden mast

The inox cleat

To wind the rope onto the wooden mast and getting a clean and tidy installation at all times.

- The “reinforced” tensioning system consists of a shackle, a 10m rope and 2 double pulleys, one of which has a cleat. The double pulleys reduce the force by a factor of 4, making it easier to tension the sail at the foot of the deck and increasing the strength of the installation. Reinforced tensioning systems are compatible with all sails and are required for Australe 340 and Acryl 300 shade sails.

- The “standard” tensioning system contains a shackle, a 5m rope and two single pulleys, one of which has a cleat. Suitable for Australe 220 and Solar 200 sails, it is not suitable for Australe 340 and Acryl 300 sails (except in the case of roller shade sails).

- Coconut fiber rope: the rope is made of 100% natural material. It complements the natural look of coconut-fiber canvas and wooden masts. It allows you to attach your canvas to the ring while tensioning it. Aesthetics over functionality.

- The short tensioning system with turnbuckle, recommended only for roller sails.

Fixing the robinia pole

The wooden pole is only available in a sealed version

We recommend tarring the grounded part of the pole to protect it. Place 60cm to 80cm of the mast in the ground. It is possible to use a 15cm-diameter gutter-type sleeve, with water drained to the bottom of the sleeve, so that the mast can be dismantled for the winter.

Create a concrete pad 80cm deep and 40cm in cross-section (40 x 40 x 80 cm), with a drain for water run-off. Our wooden poles are barked and sanded, not perfectly straight to give them a natural appearance. We recommend positioning the pole in the axis of the sail tension, with the most “inclined” part towards the outside of your installation.

As the masts are not perfectly straight, you can opt for a 2-stage installation: first the masts, then confirm the size of your sails according to the exact distance between fixing points. Otherwise, you can adjust the position of your sails with our tensioning systems. It's better to have a little more tension than too little.

How to install a wooden mast for shade sail ?

Step 1: Create a 60 to 80 cm deep and 40cm wide concrete slab into which the wooden pole will be sealed. The bigger the slab, the more stable the pole.

Step 2: Insert the pole into the sheath.

Tip: you can use a 15 cm-diameter gutter-type sleeve with water drainage at the bottom of the sleeve to allow the mast to be dismantled for the winter.
